Originally collected in the Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson. Exhibits a diversity of seed colors, including beige, dark brown and grey, and some seeds have brown speckles.

| Wild tepary beans are found throughout the Sonoran Desert in upland and riparian environments. | Requires scarification: before planting, lightly sand seeds to remove some of the shiny seed coat. Plant 1/2 inch deep and 4 inches apart with the summer rains. Keep moist until germinated. Water only when plants look stressed. | A self-pollinating annual. Harvest pods as they dry. Be careful: mature pods will pop open and drop seeds if left on the plant. An alternative is to harvest the whole plants when pods are turning brown, allow them to dry on a sheet, then thresh and winnow seeds. |
